Michael Keaton returns as Bruce Wayne in an exciting fan trailer that shows what his cancelled Batman Beyond movie could have been like. Ben Affleck played Batman in the DCEU. However, both Keaton and George Clooney reprised their versions of the Dark Knight in 2023’s The Flash. According to Kevin Smith, a Keaton Batman Beyond movie would have been made if The Flash was successful. Since the film bombed at the box office, becoming one of the lowest-grossing entries among all DCEU movies, Keaton’s Batman Beyond movie was never made.
Dr FlashPoint shared a concept trailer that imagines Michael Keaton’s cancelled Batman Beyond movie.
The trailer features many of the characters present in the iconic animated franchise, such as the villains Shriek, the Royal Flush Gang, and even the Joker. The fan trailer uses 13 Reasons Why actor Brandon Flynn as Terry McGinnis, the title Dark Knight of the Batman Beyond franchise. At the moment, DC has no plans to bring back Keaton or have a live-action Batman Beyond movie. Batman’s The Brave and the Bold movie will see the new DC Universe’s Bruce Wayne debut.
Why Batman Beyond’s Fan Trailer Works So Well
The World Of the Series Is Faithfully Recreated
At 73, Michel Keaton would be perfect as a veteran Batman who serves in a mentor role for a younger Terry McGinnis. The Flash showed hints of that through Batman’s interaction with Ezra Miller’s two versions of Barry Allen and Sasha Calle’s Supergirl. In fact, that was a role he was meant to continue playing in the DCEU for years. Keaton’s Batman was meant to stay in the DCEU after The Flash and take over from Ben Affleck as the franchise’s main Batman. He would have served as a mentor for younger heroes.

DC has become known for having darker live-action stories than Marvel, and over the years, there have been many DC movies with huge deaths and more.
The first project that would have featured that role was Batgirl, but since the movie was cancelled, Keaton’s Batman scenes are forever lost. The Batman Beyond fan trailer taps into that concept, showing that Keaton brings the nice dose of mystery and gravitas that this version of Bruce Wayne should have. The series’ neo-gothic aesthetics look great in the trailer, which features key teases to Terry’s backstory and casts exciting choices for his villains, such as Willem Dafoe as the Joker. By tapping into the visuals of the show and the core Bruce/Terry relationship, the Batman Beyond fan trailer succeeds.
Our Take On A Batman Beyond Movie
Michael Keaton Would Be Perfect For It
The fan trailer shows how much potential a live-action Batman Beyond movie with Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne could have. I think that the project could be brought back, even with James Gunn’s new DC Universe and its Batman plans. A Batman Beyond film would be perfect for DC’s Elseworlds brand, which is used for movies and series outside Gunn’s DCU, such as Robert Pattinson’s The Batman franchise. As Batman Beyond would be visually distinct from The Batman universe and the DCU’s Dark Knight, focusing on an older Bruce, it could thrive as an Elseworlds film.
Batman Beyond is an animated action-adventure television series set twenty years after the events of Batman: The Animated series. Bruce Wayne, now in his twilight years, continues to fight crime with new gadgets, suits, and tech – but his old age has revealed that even the Caped Crusader has limits. Enter Terry McGinnis, a teenager with athletic prowess and a strong sense of justice. When pursued by a gang one night, Terry is helped by the elderly Bruce Wayne – an event that leads to Terry’s training as the new generation Batman.
