Michoacán integrates local brands into global supply chains

As part of the economic development agenda and to take advantage of the industrial logistics boom, Michoacán closed 2022 as the first federal entity to issue folios for the registration of new brands, as well as to achieve the integration of Michoacán products to online stores such as Mercado Libre, Amazon and other digital catalogs.

According to the report from the Department of Products and Industrial Property of the state Economic Development Secretariat, last year a work plan was promoted to support the registration of brands and products that can take advantage of the logistics boom.

As a first line of action, an agreement was executed between the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI) and the Directorate of Business Development and Social Economy, which gave a tax incentive and consisted of a 90% discount on the actual cost. for a trademark registration, which at the agency window costs 3,112 pesos, going to 312 pesos.

Also, through Espacio Emprendedor Morelia, 10 weekly brand registration services were provided, added to the fact that actions were deployed in 24 Michoacán municipalities to support entrepreneurs: Álvaro Obregón, Jacona, Nuevo Urecho, Apatzingán, Jiquilpan, Paracho, Ario De Rosales, La Piedad, Purépero, Charo, Lázaro Cárdenas, Puruándiro, Chilchota, Madero, Queréndaro, Contepec, Maravatío, Sahuayo, Zitácuaro, Morelia, Uruapan, Hidalgo, Nahuatzen and Zamora.

As a result, Michoacán closed the year positioning itself in first place in the number of pages issued for trademark registrations nationwide, with a total of 1,352, surpassing entities such as Mexico City, Sonora, and Jalisco.

Regarding the integration of local brands and companies into global distribution chains, the document deepened, the Marketing Department supported a total of 16 brands of Michoacan products to supply online stores such as Mercado Libre and Amazon.

Support provided

The support provided focused on the generation of the business plan until its presentation, including commercial image, creation of web pages, management of modules for online stores, professional commercial photography packages.

Among these events are China Chamber of Commerce and Technology Mexico Seminar “Operation of the Lázaro Cárdenas Port”; The Logistics Summit & Expo 2022; the 11th Business Meeting; the Automotive Supplier Forum; the Congress of the Mexican Association of Shipping Agents – AMANAC: and participation in the AMTI 2022 Intermodal Congress.

Of the companies that managed to incorporate, there are Mezcal Suspiro Azteca, Handmade Cosmetics Te Quiero Latina, Campoterra, Fruits and frozen snacks, Man Up: Beauty Products, La Fuente Sweets, Valen Sauces.
