Smith said, during a hearing of the Senate Intelligence Committee to Congress, Tuesday: “At this stage we have seen concrete evidence pointing to the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service, and we did not find any evidence that might lead us to another effect.”
The head of “Microsoft” did not clarify what evidence he was talking about, while the general manager of “CrowdStrike”, a cybersecurity company, George Kurtz, said during the same meeting that he could not confirm or deny allegations about Russia’s involvement in the attack.
“I know that the government said that Russia is one of the parties responsible for the attack,” Kurtz said. “As for us, we cannot add anything to confirm or deny that.”

In early January 2021, the US Agency for Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security announced in a report published in cooperation with the FBI and some other government institutions that Russia is likely behind the widespread cyber attack on entities using the “SolarWinds” software.
Washington considered that the target of the attack, which was among the victims of US government agencies, was intelligence gathering, while Russia had repeatedly confirmed that it had nothing to do with the incident.
