Hackers linked to Russian intelligence services have accessed the emails of top Microsoft executives, according to a court document filed by the American IT giant.
And I mentioned Microsoft The hackers belong to the “Midnight Blizzard” group, which works in cooperation with Russian foreign intelligence services, according to Washington and London.
“This group is known to primarily target countries, diplomatic entities, non-governmental organizations, and IT service providers in the United States and Europe,” Microsoft said in a blog post last August regarding a previous cyberattack.
She added, “They seek to collect intelligence information by spying on foreign interests in the long term.”
The activities of “Midnight Blizzard”, also known as “Nobelium”, return; Until the beginning of 2018, according to Microsoft. The company’s security team discovered the latest attack on January 12, triggering defenses that prevented hackers from accessing more accounts.
The attack began last November when hackers tried to use a password on a series of accounts and were able to access an old test account.
The hackers then used this “fulcrum” to access certain Microsoft employee accounts, including those of managers and security team members, and obtained emails and attached materials.
Microsoft noted, “The investigation indicates that the hackers initially targeted email accounts to obtain information related to Midnight Blizzard itself.”
According to the company, there is no evidence that hackers were able to access customer accounts, production systems, source code, or artificial intelligence programs at Microsoft.
Microsoft said, “Given the fact that there are well-resourced, state-funded malicious actors, we are seeking a new balance between security risks and commercial risks.”
