The majority of Australians will be in for a soggy start to the week with heavy rain set for large swathes of the country and overcast skies for much of the week.
Sydney residents woke up to grey morning on Saturday with thick cloud cover over the city and the wet weather expected to remain until at least Thursday.
Victorian residents are also in for a gloomy few days with cloudy skies and showers to remain throughout most of Melbourne‘s snap five-day coronavirus lockdown.

The situation could improve by Wednesday, however, with partly sunny skies set to return as lockdown eases for the city’s nearly five million residents.
The rest of Australia also looks set to cop a drenching with clouds, showers and storms sweeping across the nation, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.
Holiday plans for many Australians look to be in tatters as, along with the wet weather, many states slam their borders shut to Victoria in response to an outbreak of coronavirus at the Holiday Inn Melbourne Airport, which sits at 14 cases as of Saturday.

Much of eastern New South Wales was has been hit with heavy rain as blanket cloud cover moves across the state, the Bureau of Meteorology warned of thunderstorms on Saturday
Sydneysiders are in for a cold, wet week with clouds and rain set in for day on Saturday and temperatures not exceeding 25C for the next few days.
The wet weather is also set to stick around with Sunday being overcast and showers predicted for Monday and Tuesday.
South-east Queensland will also be in for an overcast start to the week with showers and cloud cover expected until at least Tuesday.
Temperatures for the Sunshine State will be slightly warmer, however, with minimums in the low twenties and the mercury expected to reach 30C on Monday.
South Australia will see slightly warmer days, with Adelaide reaching 33C on Tuesday.
Some areas of NSW have already received a drenching with more than 45mm of rain in the previous 24 hours to Saturday

Though overnight temperatures on Saturday and Sunday will be very fresh dropping to below 14C.
Tasmania will be even colder with the mercury plunging to 11C overnight on Sunday in Hobart.
Maximums will hover around 21C for the week with overcast weather and showers likely.
Victoria will be in for an overcast week with mild temperatures.
The minimum temperatures for the start of the week will hover around 14C while maximums won’t exceed 30C.
While the weather might provide excellent conditions for international tennis players at the Australian Open, unfortunately fans won’t be able to attend due to lockdowns.
Over on the west coast of the country where WA has just introduced a hard lockdown for Victoria, temperatures will be warmer.
Saturday, unlike the rest of the country will be warm and sunny with a maximum temperature of 34C.
Clouds and possible storms may follow early in the week with hot days on Monday and Tuesday reaching 36C.
The rain should ease by Thursday for much of the south of the country while the west season is in full swing in the north
The Australian Capital Territory will be in for a particularly chilly week, as MPs race back to Canberra, with overnight temperatures sitting at an icy 11C.
While showers on Saturday will ease, cloud cover will stick around for the majority of the week.
In the Northern Territory, the wet season is in full swing with humid weather and warm temperatures between 24C and 31C for the week.
Afternoon storms are also expected on most days.
