- BMW Group has already called back some 80k vehicles worldwide over issue
Mini has been forced to put deliveries of its latest models on hold due to a safety recall caused by potentially defective parts.
Orders of the new three and five-door Cooper, as well as the Countryman SUV, have been delayed as a result of an impending brake system recall that’s already impacted parent company BMW.
Some 80,000 BMW and Rolls-Royce models worldwide have been called back for the same issue, which could see drivers lose control of their cars.
Mini UK has put on hold deliveries of its new Cooper (pictured) and Countryman SUV over a potential recall that’s already affected parent group BMW
Mini UK has confirmed that it has ‘partially’ halted deliveries of Coopers and Countrymans over concerns over the problem.
It is believed to be the same issue that has already triggered February recalls for BMW’s latest 5 Series and 7 Series as well as the current generations of the X1, X3, X5, X6, X7 and XM SUVs.
The electric i5 and i7 are also affected, as is Rolls-Royce’s first EV, the £330,000 Spectre.
The issue is related to the integrated braking system, which determines the level of feel and feedback given to the driver through the brake pedal.
For the BMW models already recalled, ABS and stability control system defects were found to potentially cause power braking assistance to fail.
As a result, drivers could lose control of their car.
The issue is said to be related to the integrated braking system, which determines the level of feel and feedback given to the driver through the brake pedal. Drivers can lose control of their cars if they are impacted by the problem
The new Mini Countryman is also thought to be affected by the same issue. BMW has already recalled 80,000 vehicles worldwide in relation to this issue
The BMW Group, which oversees the three brands, said it is temporarily putting on hold deliveries of new Mini Coopers – including the Convertible – and Countrymans at it may extended the recall action ‘as additional cases outside the original scope of the recall have been identified’.
A spokesperson for Mini told us: ‘In February 2024, the BMW Group issued a safety-related recall for the Integrated Braking System across a range of BMW models.
‘The company is extending this action to include more BMW and Mino models as additional cases outside the original scope of the recall have been identified.
‘BMW Group UK is in discussions with the DVSA and will announce the intended remedy actions imminently. Where vehicles are recalled, affected customers in the UK will be informed via a letter to the registered keeper.’
Despite existing deliveries being put on hold, Mini order books remain open.
