The Minnesota Timberwolves have a shot at ending almost 20 years of practically uninterrupted drift. Those of Chris Finch are on the verge of direct access to the playoff positions, just one game away from the Denver Nuggets, who occupy sixth place in the West. With the idea of securing this position or aspiring to more, they appear at the close of the market as a buying team, and their main target is Marcus Smart.
Patrick Beverley has proven himself to be a more than valid complement to the outside line led by D’Angelo Russell and Anthony Edwards. The defensive nature of the base is a counterpoint to the scoring talent of these two, and also helps with small doses of play creation. In that respect, both defensively and offensively, Marcus Smart would be a huge improvement taking on that role.
However, it does not seem like the best time to be interested in the Texan. The Celtics live a sweet moment in which Smart is largely to blame. The point guard has been playing very well as a passing link for Boston’s scorers and his defense continues to be a stronghold for the team. In fact, what Brad Stevens intends is to pack Dennis Schröder in order to escape the luxury tax and make more room for Payton Pritchard.
Darren Wolfson, journalist at the media located in Minnesota SKOR North, corroborates that the Timberwolves would have offered Malik Beasley, an offer that the Celtics would have rejected. By his own account, Brad Stevens’ demands would include Jaden McDaniels and or a first-round pick in addition to Beasley, though it might not even be enough to get a deal done.
