Former MLB center fielder Cameron Maybin has advocated for the Los Angeles Angels to trade superstar Mike Trout, arguing it would be a fitting reward for the veteran’s loyalty.
Despite a decorated career that includes three AL MVP awards, 11 All-Star selections, and the 2012 AL Rookie of the Year award, Trout has never won a World Series. His postseason experience is limited to just three games in 2014, the last time the Angels reached the playoffs.
“Reward him for his loyalty,” Maybin said on the “Foul Territory” show. “Get him somewhere where he has a chance to win. He deserves it.”
While Trout has consistently expressed his desire to win with the Angels, the team is mired in MLB’s longest active postseason drought. This season, despite a competitive effort in the AL Wild Card race, the Angels are several games behind after an unproductive trade deadline, making a playoff appearance unlikely. The organization has stated its goal is to contend by 2026, raising questions about whether that timeline aligns with the remainder of Trout’s career.
Now 34, Trout has battled significant injuries in recent seasons, including a torn meniscus that required two surgeries and has since limited him to a designated hitter role.
Even without playing the field, the nine-time Silver Slugger remains a dominant offensive force, hitting 20 home runs with a .363 on-base percentage this season. A trade could provide the Angels with the assets needed to accelerate a rebuild while giving one of the generation’s greatest players a legitimate opportunity to compete for a championship.
