Modernization of Port Colombia, ready in 2023

Monterrey, NL. Next year, authorities from Nuevo León hope to complete the modernization of the infrastructure of Puerto Colombia, with the aim of establishing itself as the second customs office with the highest collection in the country, and that crossings to the United States are carried out quickly and safely. .

Seven booths are currently open and two exclusive lanes have been set up: one for cold perishables and the other for the Tesla assembly company and its suppliers.

Next year another eight crossing lanes will be added for a total of 15, among them there will be exclusive lanes for various companies.

Based on a model provided by Border Patrol and the United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP), a unique Check Point will be created in Mexico, similar to the one located on Highway 135, between Laredo and San Antonio, in Texas, on which will replace the current position of Review of Colombia.

The first housing complex for workers of companies installed in the port will also be added so that it can function 24 hours a day.

Progress will be made in the new security infrastructure, with a Civil Force base that will increase from 35 to 350 elements, and a detachment of the Ministry of National Defense and the National Guard with 120 troops.

Likewise, the technical studies and procedures for the Airport projects and new Tracks and Multimodal Railway Station will be specified.

The comprehensive renovation of facilities throughout the Tax Precinct will be carried out, such as a new entrance door, roads and buildings, parking lots and esplanades, a tourist inn, among other things.

These projects are connected to the Highway Master Plan that will connect the country via the Colombia Bridge with the construction of the Interserrana highway, the conclusion of the III Peripheral Stage -in July 2023-, the Monterrey-Colombia and La Gloria Colombia highways.

The president of the Mexican Hotel Association of Nuevo León, Jesús Nader Marcos, told El Economista that all these projects present the opportunity to create hotel infrastructure.

“When the Gloria-Colombia highway is finished, there will be an opportunity to create hotel infrastructure, because an area of ​​maquiladoras will be developed that will require lodging,” he said.
