Infrared cameras have detected more than 10 jackals in the Qinghai region of Mount Qilian in northwest China, the largest number of these animals recorded in nearly a decade.
The number of Chinese jackals decreased dramatically at the end of the twentieth century for unknown reasons. The Chinese authorities consider that these animals could soon disappear, and therefore they were registered in the list of protected species.
