New York, USA (CNN) – More than 170 prominent business leaders in the USA have signed a letter urging Congress to accept the Electoral College results declaring Joe Biden as the next president of the United States.
“This presidential election has been decided and it is time for the country to move forward. President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris have won … There should be no further delay in the orderly transfer of power,” he wrote in the letter.
The letter was published on Monday by the nonprofit New York City Partnership, a key advocacy group for the business community.
In addition to the first two signers, other businessmen were asked to sign the letter, says Catherine Wilde, the group’s chief executive.
In addition to the letter, Business Roundtable, a non-profit organization that includes the heads of America’s largest corporations, said in a statement that it “opposes efforts to delay or cancel the apparent outcome of the elections.”
Congress is due to meet on Wednesday to ratify the election results, in what is usually a routine process. But at least 140 Republican members of the House of Representatives and dozens of Republicans in the Senate are preparing to vote against Biden’s victory in an effort to nullify the election results, although there is no evidence of widespread voter fraud.
