The Moroccan Minister of Equipment, Transport, Supplies and Water, Abdelkader Amara, revealed that his country’s government had launched the construction of the largest desalination plant project in Morocco and Africa.
Amara explained that the seawater desalination plant in Casablanca will have a capacity of 300 million cubic meters, at a rate of 840 thousand cubic meters per day, indicating that water sustainability is linked to the need to fight pollution.
The same government official said that, by the end of the current year 2020, Morocco will reach 19 billion cubic meters in storage capacity, and in 2021 it will increase to 20 billion cubic meters through 148 large dams, revealing that the dam policy adopted by Morocco and continues to work with it aims to provide 32 Billion cubic meters of storage annually.
Minister Amara previously announced that “the plant is the largest on the continental level, with a financial cost of about 10 billion dirhams, which comes after the completion of the desalination of sea water in the Chtouka Ait Baha region, in addition to strengthening the flow of a number of desalination plants in the southern provinces of the Kingdom.”
