Moroccan Health Minister Khaled Ait Al-Taleb announced that the ministry approved the vaccine developed by the “AstraZeneca” company and the University of “Oxford” for emergency use to prevent corona virus.
He said, “The state requested the purchase of 66 million doses of (AstraZeneca) and (Sinopharma) in China, but it has not received any of them so far.”
He added, “The agreement with (Sinopharm) includes technology transfer and the establishment of a production plant in Morocco.”
He indicated that the vaccination campaign will take at least three months in order to reach community immunity.
On December 23, Morocco imposed a three-week curfew across the country from nine in the evening until six in the morning, and the closure of restaurants in Casablanca, Agadir, Marrakesh and Tangiers, which were hit hard by the pandemic.
Morocco has announced plans to start a mass vaccination campaign targeting 25 million, or 80 percent of the population.
