According to a statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry following the consultations on Wednesday, during which “views were exchanged on the situation in the region with a focus on the need to activate multilateral cooperation in order to create the necessary conditions for relaunching the peace process between the Palestinians and the Israelis in order to achieve a stable settlement based on the two-state solution in accordance with” United Nations Resolutions. “

The statement added, “The non-constructive nature of any unilateral steps in the Palestinian-Israeli settlement was emphasized.”
The Russian Foreign Ministry added that the parties discussed the Russian initiative to hold an international conference on the Middle East settlement, which was announced by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during the UN Security Council session in January.
The parties unanimously agreed on the unique role of the Middle East Quartet of international mediators, which includes Russia, the United States, the United Nations and the European Union, as “the only mechanism for following up the peace process approved by the UN Security Council.”
It is noteworthy that Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov called on January 26 to hold a ministerial meeting with the participation of representatives of the International Quartet, in addition to Palestine, Israel, Egypt, Jordan, the Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain to discuss a settlement in the Middle East.
