The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, has stated that Moscow is preparing to respond to the recent sanctions imposed by the United States over Russian opposition Alexei Navalny.
“You can be calm in this regard. There will be a response. It is currently being worked on,” Zakharova said in a broadcast by “Russia 1” channel on Wednesday.
She pointed out, “It (the United States) has received our countermeasures, so a lot seems to you to be symbolic, especially what (the United States) is doing towards us.”
On Tuesday, the European Union imposed sanctions on 4 Russian citizens over the arrest of Russian dissident Alexei Navalny. Immediately after that, the United States announced new sanctions against Russia on the same charge. Its new sanctions list includes 14 organizations whose main reason is the so-called “production of biological and chemical weapons.”
