A driver has found out the hard way that leaving a car window down while parked is enough to get you a fine in Australia.
The male motorist in question was parked legally in North Bondi but was slapped with a $114 fine for forgetting to wind up his window before he left the vehicle.
NSW police charged him with the offence of ‘leaving his vehicle unattended while the doors were not locked and windows not secured’, so says a fine he received days later in the mail.

According to NSW road rules, motorists can be fined $114 if they are more than three metres away from their car with the windows down 2cm or the vehicle is unlocked
The unhappy man took to Facebook to express his dismay.
‘Don’t accidentally leave your car window down in Bondi,’ he captioned a photo of the fine with an angry face emoji.
Many motorists are unaware that leaving a car window open just a few centimetres is against the law in most Australian states.
According to NSW road rules, motorists can be fined $114 if they are more than three metres away from their car with the windows down just two centimeters, or if the window is down while the vehicle is unlocked.

For drivers in Queensland, unattended cars with the windows down five centimeters or more can result in a $40 fine.
In the southern state of Victoria drivers who leave their windows down more than five centimeters will be hit with a $117 fine.
Motorists in Tasmania will have to cough up $70 if caught with their windows down.
Shocked social media users have flooded the comment section in disbelief.
‘Surely this is a joke,’ one person commented.
‘I had no idea this was an offence! What the f***,’ another agreed.
