This Sunday, the death of Veracruz journalist José Luis Gamboa Arenas was announced after being stabbed during an alleged assault in the port of Veracruz, as announced by Israel Hernández Sosa, executive secretary of the State Commission for Attention and Protection to Journalists (CEAPP).
With the murder of Gamboa Arenas, five journalists would be victims of homicide in the administration of Cuitláhuac García Jiménez. So far, the murders of communicators Jacinto Romeo Flores, Julio Valdivia, María Elena Ferral, Jorge Celestino have been counted.
The homicide of José Luis Gamboa would also be the first to be recorded in 2022 in the country.
According to figures from the UNESCO Observatory of murdered journalists, so far in the current administration (December 2018 to December 2021), 32 journalists have been killed in Mexico.
