The former Attorney General of the Republic, Jesús Murillo Karam, formally requested a federal judge to change justified preventive detention to house arrest due to his health conditions.
Murillo Karam appeared this Thursday via virtual from the Tepepan medical tower, before the Control judge based in the North Prison, Marco Antonio Fuerte Tapia.
His lawyer, Javier López García, formally asked the judge to change the precautionary measure for Murillo, arguing his age (74 years) and his different illnesses.
At the close of this edition, the hearing continued to determine whether or not the judge would grant house arrest to Murillo, who is accused by the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) of the crimes of torture, forced disappearance and against the administration of justice in the Ayotzinapa case.
Last September, Judge Marco Antonio Fuerte Tapia linked the ex-official to the three crimes due to the investigation he led into the disappearance of the 43 normalistas from Ayotzinapa.
The former attorney general and former senator left the Belisario Domínguez Specialty Hospital in Mexico City last Wednesday, where he had been recovering since November 3, and was transferred to the Medical Tower of the Tepepan Social Reintegration Center in Xochimilco.
Medical condition

On October 19, he was transferred to the Xoco General Hospital to attend to his delicate state of health derived from the complicated clinical picture he presented. After conducting several studies, on October 20th the doctors at said hospital decided that a surgical intervention was necessary, performing an emergency High-Risk Carotid Endarterectomy surgery. Studies carried out on Murillo Karam revealed another blocked carotid artery, increasing the risk of a brain clot.
Since Murillo was arrested, his defense and family warned the authorities of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), as well as the judge in the case, that Murillo Karam suffered from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), synthetic arterial hypertension, and heart failure. cerebrovascular disease, which requires practically 24-hour medical monitoring
“In this sense, we will continue to request the change of precautionary measure to obtain home preventive detention of Mr. Jesús Murillo Karam in view of his delicate state of health, for which the corresponding medical reports are being collected,” said lawyer Javier López García. .
