Murillo Karam rules out seeking an agreement with the FGR to obtain house arrest

With a deteriorated state of health and with oxygen support, the former Attorney General of the Republic, Jesus Murillo Karamwill seek again through a challenge that the General Prosecutor of the Republic (FGR) allows him access to house arrest.

However, Murillo’s lawyer, Javier López García, ruled out for the moment seeking an opportunity criterion with the Prosecutor’s Office. “We are focused on making the defense, on carrying out the adversarial proceedings as established by the obligations of the defense,” he told The Economist.

He also ruled out that his client request the intervention of the president of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, Arturo Zaldivaras the former Secretary of State did at the time, Rosario Robles. “We have the means to be able, through legal and institutional channels, to obtain the resolution that we are seeking,” he said.

On Friday at a hearing, the Control judge based in the North Prison, Marco Antonio Fuerte Tapia, denied Murillo the change of precautionary measure, from preventive detention to house arrest, once again warning of a high risk of flight.

The lawyer Javier López García questioned that a person with so many illnesses can escape the action of justice. “It is not credible that a 74-year-old person, with these conditions, who completely depends on the medical care of specialists in different branches of medicine, in addition to nursing, can escape the action of justice. (…) We will appeal this resolution and we will continue to insist that the correct thing, in accordance with the principle of presumption of innocence, is that a person of his age with these characteristics is carrying out this process in freedom to protect his health, ”he mentioned.

“Currently it has detected various diseases, or conditions, including Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), systemic arterial hypertension, cerebrovascular insufficiency, even in one of the hospitals to which he has been referred, he was also detected with type 2 diabetes. The prognosis given by the doctors in the different hospital centers is reserved and awaiting confirmation. evolution, because he underwent surgery on one of the carotid arteries to prevent a possible brain event. The FGR charges the ex-prosecutor and ex-governor of Hidalgo with the crimes of torture, forced disappearance and against the administration of justice in the case of the disappearance of the 43 normalistas from Ayotzinapa.

The lawyer Javier López García explained that various appeals promoted in search of Murillo’s freedom are being processed, including an amparo against the link to the process, and the most recent against the change of the precautionary measure.

The litigant mentioned that in the current complementary investigation phase, official documentation will not be sent when Murillo was head of the PGR, since he has sufficient documentary evidence for his defense.

After the Interdisciplinary Group of Independent Experts (GIEI) revealed that Undersecretary Alejandro Encinas included in his report unverified evidence about the events in Iguala, Javier López said that the elements will be assessed to determine if they can help his client. Likewise, he ruled out that Murillo could be involved by the FGR with the former head of the Criminal Investigation Agency, Tomas Zeron de Luciocurrently required by Mexico to Israeli authorities.
