Alessandra Mussolini, a well-known former Italian legislator and granddaughter of dictator Benito Mussolini, has announced her retirement from politics.
“Politics for me is a period and it has ended,” Alessandra, 57, told the right-leaning Italian newspaper, Il Tempo.
“For me it was clearly important,” she added. “When someone has worked in politics for many years, the experience stays with you, but everything has a beginning and an end.”
Mussolini was known for her far-right views and defense of her grandfather’s legacy.
It is noteworthy that Alessandra Mussolini is an actress and former model and her aunt, the movie star Sophia Loren, recently starred in “Dancing With the Stars”, a television program for celebrity dance on public television “RAI”.
She stated that it was a “wonderful experience” that made her discover “new aspects of her personality” and “above all, many muscles that she did not know she had.”
