Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal expressed his astonishment at the criticism of Lionel Messi after his contract with Barcelona leaked out, describing him as one of the best players in history.
Nadal said in statements to the Spanish newspaper, Marca: “I do not understand the reason for the debate (about Messi’s huge contract). This is a player who is without a doubt among the best in football history, and he is paid what his club was ready to pay after agreeing with him.”
El Matador added, “Messi deserves all the appreciation, and he is not obligated to deal with the club’s financial affairs. The club management must control this matter.”

Nadal, known for his love for Real Madrid, also expressed his concern about the current situation in which the royal team is experiencing, saying: “The team is going through very difficult times, and these are difficult times to predict how it will end. What is important is that Madrid remain as it is.”
Nadal’s comments came against the backdrop of criticism against Messi because of the leaks about the value of his “pharaonic” contract, as described by the media.
The newspaper “El Mundo del Siglo XXI” leaked exciting details of Messi’s contract with Barcelona, and its cover bore the title “The Pharaonic Decade that Destroys Barcelona”, accompanied by the number 555.237.619 euros.
The newspaper stated that the Argentine star has signed a contract since 2017, stipulating that he will receive about 138 million euros per season, an amount divided between fixed and variable.
The contract includes two bonuses: one worth (115.225 million euros) only for accepting the renewal, and the other for his loyalty to the team, at a value of (77.929 million euros).
It is noteworthy that Rafael Nadal (34 years old) holds the record for the number of times the French Open tennis championship, which is held at Roland Garros, with 13 titles, and shares the world record for the number of wins in the Grand Slam series, With Swiss maestro Roger Federer, with 20 titles each.
