NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg confirmed that the alliance is ready to use a fleet of unmanned reconnaissance aircraft to monitor the southern and eastern borders of NATO.
“The fleet is important to provide capabilities to monitor and respond to potential threats,” he said.
He added, “The unmanned aircraft will be able to conduct reconnaissance flights for a period of 30 hours, during which they will cover the entire airspace of the alliance and provide an accurate picture of what is happening.”
He continued, “These aircraft will also be able to detect explosive devices.”
Stoltenberg indicated that he intends to propose at the meeting of NATO defense ministers on February 17-18, to increase the funding of the alliance.
