Russian dissident Alexei Navalny announced his intention to return to his homeland next Sunday from Germany.
Navalny said in a recorded statement published today on his account on the “Instagram” website, that he has almost fully recovered after the alleged poisoning attempt, and intends to return to Moscow on Sunday, January 17th, on a passenger plane of the Russian “Pobeda” company.
In his speech, Navalny held the Russian government responsible for “doing everything in its power” to prevent his return to the country, stressing that the criminal case brought by the Russian Investigation Committee in late December accuses him of embezzling donations worth 356 million rubles, blatantly fabricated.
The case of the alleged poisoning of Alexei Navalny
Navalny’s health deteriorated on August 20 when he was on a passenger plane flying from Tomsk in northeastern Russia to the capital, Moscow.
The plane made an emergency landing in the city of Omsk, central Siberia, and the exhibitors were transferred to a local hospital in a coma.
Several days later, the Russian government accepted Navalny’s family’s request to take him to Germany for treatment.
After his arrival in Germany, Navalny and a number of Western countries, including Germany, claimed that he was poisoned with the use of “Novichok” by members of the Russian Federal Security Service.
For its part, the Russian government categorically denies this account, stressing that the case is completely fabricated and that the results of the examinations that Navalny underwent in Omsk do not contain any indications of his poisoning.
Moscow held Germany responsible for refusing to cooperate in the joint investigation of this matter, suggesting that Western intelligence services would be behind the fabrication of the case.
And the Kremlin declared that there were no restrictions preventing Navalny from returning to Russia.
