Brooklyn Nets lose AGAIN, this time to the Grizzlies, despite Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving going big… while Philadelphia and Houston finally get the season up and running with their first wins of the campaign
Not even a combined 74 points from Brooklyn big guns Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving could stop the Nets from going down 134-124 in the NBA to the Memphis Grizzlies.
Durant and Irving dropped 37 points apiece on Monday night while Australian’s Ben Simmons (seven points, three rebounds, eight assists) and Patty Mills (six points) had lesser contributions in the Tennessee defeat, their second from three starts.
Ja Morant led all scorers at halftime with 24 points as the hosts trailed 69-64. He finished with 38 along with Desmond Bane who shot 14 of 21, including 8 of 11 from three-point range.

Kyrie Irving also got 37 points but the Nets were beaten 134-124 by the Memphis Grizzlies
Memphis broke open a close game with a 17-2 run early in the third quarter, which they ended up winning 45-28.
The Grizzlies’ third victory of the campaign was a swift return to form after Saturday’s 41-point hiding from the Dallas Mavericks, while Durant passed Alex English (25, 613) for 20th on the NBA’s all-time scoring list.
Elsewhere, Philadelphia and Houston won their first games of the season.
James Harden fell one rebound shy of a triple double (29 points, nine rebounds, 11 assists) while reigning NBA scoring champion Joel Embiid (26 points) also starred in the 76ers’ 120-106 win at home over the Indiana Pacers.
Aussie Matisse Thybulle only had two minutes on court as Philadelphia improved to 1-3.
The Rockets, meantime, had Kevin Porter Jr (26 points, 10 rebounds) to thank as they inflicted a first loss on the Utah Jazz, 114-108.
James Harden and the Philadelphia 76ers got their first win of the season on Monday night
Boston dropped their first match of the season, going down 120-102 to the Bulls in Chicago. DeMar DeRozan led the hosts with 25 points and Jason Tatum had a game-high 26, but couldn’t stop the Celtics falling to 3-1.
At Madison Square Garden, the winless Orlando Magic were beaten 115-102 by the New York Knicks.
The Toronto Raptors enjoyed a 98-90 road win against the Heat in Miami, while the San Antonio Spurs scored a 115-106 victory at the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The Denver Nuggets, meanwhile, went down 110-135 to the Portland Trail Blazers.
