COllin Sexton will not play again this season. The Cavaliers guard was injured two weeks ago in a game against the Knicks and has undergone surgery for a ruptured cartilage in his left knee. Until then he was a starter and averaged 16 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists. Ricky Rubio has occupied his place in the starting five since then and, given his good performance, everything indicates that he will continue to do so.
Sexton’s absence should be bad news for the Cavaliers, but in the locker room he is not one of the most affectionate personalities. He recently came out very badly after a ‘Sports Illustrated’ article in which some NBA scouts gave their testimonies anonymously. One of them was primed with him: “None of his classmates like him. Practically all of them hate him. From what I’ve been told he’s a complete idiot.”
The 22-year-old, 1.85-meter player had started his fourth season in the NBA. The previous one was very positive for him in statistical terms. He averaged 24.3 points and 4.4 assists. However, the Cavaliers were some of the worst teams in the competition at 22-50.
The article also accused Sexton of being selfish and compared him to Darius Garland, another of the young stars on the team. “I like Garland. He plays hard. He can shoot and he’s a much more generous passer. He’s not out there trying to do his stats and go home like Sexton does. I don’t think they can play those two little guys together and get much use out of it. “. Ricky, who has now taken the helm, entered that equation.
That Sexton is not well liked in Cleveland is demonstrated by the fact that in the summer, despite his great season, he was in many transfer rumors and until recently there was talk of the Thunder’s interest in joining him with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. Finally they did not materialize.
They also recently did not reach an agreement to extend their contract. “Quite disappointed,” said the player when asked about his non-renewal. “I know they want me here. I’m just a little disappointed, but we move on,” he assured. Now I won’t play again until next year. With the Cavaliers?
