NBA Commissioner Adam Silver ‘is on SHORTLIST to become the next Disney CEO’… with 60-year-old’s current contract set to expire at the end of next year
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver could soon trade one high-profile job for another one, as he’s reportedly on a ‘shortlist’ to become the next CEO of Disney.
Silver has served as the NBA’s commissioner since 2014 and his current contract runs through the end of next year.
And Fox Business Network’s Charles Gasparino has reported that Silver is on an ‘unofficial short list of internal/external candidates’ to replace current Disney CEO Bob Iger.
Candle Media co-founder and co-CEO Kevin Mayer, and Disney co-chairman Dana Walden were also named as candidates for the role.
A source that spoke to Front Office Sports clarified that Silver is only being considered for the CEO job, and can’t serve on Disney’s board due to the conflict of interest caused by the NBA’s broadcast partnership with them.
Adam Silver could soon be the top boss at Disney after a stint as the NBA’s comissioner
Bob Iger is in his second stint as Disney CEO after initially retiring from the company in 2021
Iger is currently in his second stint as CEO after re-joining the company in November.
The 72-year-old first served in the role from 2005-2020, but wasn’t intended as a long-term fix after taking over from Bob Chapek last year.
Meanwhile, Silver has been plenty busy in his current role.
It was revealed Saturday Ja Morant was being investigated by the league after he appeared to flash a gun in a shocking Instagram Live video, while posing topless in a strip club in the early hours of the morning.
The Athletic’s Shams Charania then reported that Morant had been banned for ‘at least two games’ while the investigation into the incident continues.
Morant, 23, has hit the headlines for all the wrong reasons in the past week, after a police report revealed he ‘flashed a gun at a 17-year-old after punching him 12 to 13 times at his Tennessee mansion’ last summer.
