The NBA has fined 18 former players for defrauding the Health and Welfare Plan that the League itself provides to active and retired players. The total quantity demanded is $ 4 million. This complaint is due to the request for medical and dental services that were never provided. According Information collected by ABC, the head of the operation is Terrence Williams, former player of Nets, Celtics, Rockets and Kings. The players involved had already received 2.5 million of the total sum to which the complaint appeals.
Sebastian Telfair, Glen Davis and Darius Miles were the main operators of the fraud network, but the list extends to a few more acquaintances. Alan Anderson, Tony Allen, Desiree Allen, Shannon Brown, Will Bynum, Christopher Douglas-Roberts, Melvin Ely, Milton Palacio, Ruben Patterson, Eddie Robinson, Greg Smith, Charles Watson, Antoine Wright and Tony Wroten complete the list of defendants.
The medical centers involved are also targeted. These are a chiropractic clinic in Encino, California; two dental centers in Beverly Hills and a medical center in Washington. In principle, these centers will not be affected by the demand.
