Houston Rockets ‘part ways with coach Stephen Silas after awful 21-60 season’ – as franchise opt for a new man to take them into a rebuild after his three losing years in charge
The Houston Rockets ‘will not pick up the fourth-year option on coach Stephen Silas’ contract’, bringing an end to his awful spell in charge of the team.
The Rockets beat the Wizards in Sunday’s season-ending game, but it only took their record to 21-60 – marking the third straight losing campaign under Silas.
The news was first broken by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and The Athletic’s Shams Charania, just moments after the final game of the year had ended.
In his three seasons in charge in Houston, the team went 17-55, 20-62 and 21-60, and they will now reportedly bring in a new man to begin the rebuild.
The front office will desperately hope that begins with bringing in 7-foot-4 French phenom Victor Wembanyama, although they will have to wait until the Draft Lottery to find out where they stand on that front.

It has been reported that former Boston Celtics head coach Ime Udoka is among the front-runners to take over at the Rockets, while other names that are being considered are Golden State assistant Kenny Atkinson and former Lakers coach Frank Vogel.
Another name on the list is Raptors coach Nick Nurse, if he becomes available, per Wojnarowski.
ESPN also reported that the Rockets general manager Rafael Stone is due to meet with Silas on Monday to formalize the exit.
As for Silas’ next move, it is expected he will become a top assistant coach option for teams looking for a reshuffle during the offseason.
