The NBA has previewed the new edition of the ‘City Edition’ uniforms that will be worn in the 2021-22 regular season to mark the league’s 75th anniversary.
All teams will debut them between next December or early 2022, except for two franchises such as Utah Jazz and Phoenix Suns, which repeat the design of the previous year that commemorate the colors of the Utah Valley and the landscape of the Arizona Desert.
“It’s about inviting the next generation to join. You can put the story on your uniforms, and the uniform can become the bridge to the next generation, ”said Jesse Alvarez, director of Nike.
Following the agreement reached by the NBA and the Nike company in 2017 valued at 1 billion dollars, the Oregon-based sports firm aimed to present a special campaign for a year as historic as the present.
“We went to Nike in August 2019. And we said, Hey, the 75th anniversary season is coming up, how are we going to celebrate it?” Admitted Christopher Arena, the league’s vice president of wardrobe.
For the 50th anniversary a select group of franchises presented a uniform Hardwood Classic that honored a particular chapter in its history, but for the 75th birthday the Nike firm wanted to take ideas from different years. “Make a tapestry of NBA history and put it in one place,” Arena said.
