The NBA is set to introduce the league’s first ever in-season Final Four tournament that will take place in Las Vegas, Nevada from December 7-9, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
It was also announced by the NBA that an ESPN NBA Today Special episode will air on Saturday at 7:30pm est to announce further details.
The details to be revealed will include dates, competitive structure, locations, trophy unveiling and group drawings.
NBA commissioner Adam Silver has been mentioning wanting the NBA to put together a soccer-style in-season cup tournament and told reporters back in April that the tournament would ‘look different’ to viewers.
‘The players will be wearing different uniforms,’ he added. ‘Maybe the court will look different. You’ll know that it’s not just a regular-season game.’

Silver also stated that the tournament would include an initial round, knockout round and pool play ahead of the final four in an effort to ‘create new games of consequences during the regular season.’
Yahoo sports also reported earlier this year that players on the team that won the tournament would receive $500,000 each.
Holding the tournament in a city such as Las Vegas, which does not possess its own NBA franchise, would also allow fans in a new market access to seeing a variety of new teams.
