On August 25, Nerlens Noel made public his lawsuit against Rich Paul and Klutch Sports for the potential loss of 58 million dollars. Noel alleged that the agent dissuaded him from taking the contract that the Dallas Mavericks offered him for four years and 70 million in 2017. Four years later, the center had to settle for 32 million for three years after relaunching his career hand in hand of the New York Knicks. In these three months, the legal problems have lengthened the trial more than expected, and now Noel wants to extend his complaint to the NBA Players Association -NBPA-.
Seeing that his appeals against Paul did not give the expected result, the player claims to blame the association chaired by CJ McCollum for leaving one of its members in the hands of an agent who acted in bad faith. If victorious, the lawsuit could affect the association’s governmental structure, but those who are closely following the case dudan that can achieve it. On November 15, Noel’s lawyers presented a statement alleging that “this matter leads to the question of whether the association made use of the statute that allows it to report this type of case within 30 days. And the answer is no'”. The referees speak of a legal mechanism that the NBPA could activate in case of flagrant damage to the benefit of the player.
However, some of the specialists and legal representatives of the Players Association They have spoken with The Athletic to show their support for Noel while predicting that soon the case will return to its main course. At the moment, there are already three months of cuts and legal documents that it does not seem that they will end in the short term.
