Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that “there will be no ceasefire in the war against Hamas,” and added that “the civilized world must fight the barbarians who want to bring us into an age of darkness and terror,” he said.
Netanyahu continued – in a joint press conference with the Israeli Defense Minister at the beginning of the War Council meeting – that the ceasefire would be a “surrender to Hamas,” and it would not happen that Israel would surrender to terrorism and barbarism, as he put it.
Netanyahu cited a saying from the Bible that says that there is a time for peace and another for war, and commented, “This is a time for war, and Israel will continue until it is victorious.”
Netanyahu appealed to the world to call for “the immediate and unconditional release of more than 200 hostages,” referring to the prisoners captured by Hamas during Operation “Al-Aqsa Flood” on October 7th.
He added – in the conference he held at the Kirya military base in Tel Aviv – that Israel has been in a state of war since the seventh of this October, and that it did not start the war and did not want it, but it will win it, referring to what he called Hamas’s atrocities against children, women and men, despite Limit his description.
Netanyahu believes that Israel is fighting the enemy of civilization, adding that Hamas must be held accountable for what he called “the crimes it commits by targeting civilians and using them as human shields.” He added that “Iran is an axis of evil and terror and is working to finance Hamas.”
Netanyahu accused Hamas of using mosques to reinforce its military positions, keeping civilians in harm’s way, and stealing fuel from humanitarian aid.
He said that his government regrets that “a large number of our friends did not insist on strongly condemning the barbarians,” and denied his intention to resign, noting that “Hamas must resign and go into the obscurity of history, and this goal unites Israel,” stressing that catastrophic consequences await Israel if She did not win, he said.
Netanyahu promised that his country is making systematic progress in its military campaign in the Gaza Strip, stressing that “the Israeli army has expanded the scope of its ground incursion into the Gaza Strip, and that it is doing so in a thoughtful manner, and these are strong steps that are making systematic progress, step by step,” as he put it.
For his part, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant said that Israel will achieve the goal of the ground operation in Gaza, by returning the kidnapped people and dismantling Hamas’ capabilities.
He added that those he called “Hamas terrorists” had only death or surrender, and there was no third option, according to his description.
Galant added, “We continue to respond to every threat targeting us from the north, and whoever drags us into war will pay a heavy price,” and continued, “We are in a state of defense on the Lebanon front, and our forces are ready to respond to any aggression from the north.”
He continued, “We will do everything we can to defend the independence of our state and consolidate the superiority we have achieved in the south,” indicating that the war will not be short-lived, but we are determined to win it. Because it is a war waged against the homeland.
He said that the priority was how to win the war and recover all the hostages, explaining that there were many kidnapped by Hamas.
Gallant thanked the United States for supporting Israel during the war.
