BERGEN, N.J. – A New Jersey household in which smoke had been claimed exploded with volunteer firefighters inside, injuring six of them and sending two to a hospital for treatment of burns, authorities said.
“I thought we have been going to have six fatalities, I really did,” reported Pompton Lakes Hearth Chief Jason Ekkers. “They managed to climb out of the basement with compromised stairs. They all aided just about every other out, they arrived out a person at a time and we had been at the back doorway, just feeding them out.”
Rather, the firefighters — who hearth authorities declined to determine — had been executing perfectly Sunday. Four ended up dealt with at the scene and two were taken to the hospital with burns and later on produced.
