Newcastle United are set to increase their offer for AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw after an initial €30 million bid was rejected. The Premier League club is expected to submit the improved proposal today as they push to finalize a deal for the German international, with Milan reportedly holding out for a fee closer to €35 million.
Negotiations are reportedly advanced on the player’s side, with sources claiming Newcastle has a full verbal agreement with Thiaw on a contract until 2029. The defender’s desire to move to England could be a decisive factor in convincing the Serie A club to sanction his departure. Newcastle intensified its interest in Thiaw after facing difficulties in their pursuit of Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi.
The move comes during a challenging summer for the Magpies, who have missed out on several transfer targets to rivals. The club’s situation is further complicated by uncertainty surrounding star striker Alexander Isak. With reports of interest from Liverpool and suggestions that Isak will not sign a contract extension beyond 2028, Newcastle has begun exploring potential replacements.
In a separate move, Newcastle and Tottenham reportedly had €50 million offers for Barcelona forward Ferran Torres rejected. The Spanish club appears determined to retain Torres, who has earned a place in new manager Hansi Flick’s plans following strong performances last season.
