Barcelona intends to honor its former star Lionel Messi next year by organizing an exhibition match between the Argentine national team and the Blaugrana team if an agreement is reached on the date of its holding.
The Spanish newspaper “Mundo Deportivo” revealed that the club’s management is planning to honor Messi in conjunction with the opening of the new “Spotify Camp Nou” stadium to the public, which is expected to take place in November 2024, which coincides with the 125th anniversary of the club’s founding.
Media reports said that the Barca administration is preparing a giant picture of Messi, which will decorate the stands in honor of his long career with the club, and in recognition of his achievements.
It is expected that the “Bulga” will come to the new “Camp Nou” stadium, bringing with him the World Cup that he won in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, in addition to the eight Golden Balls that he won throughout his football career.
Exhibition match
In this context, the newspaper reported that there is an obstacle to holding the match at the aforementioned time, as the Tango team will play two matches in the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, on November 14 and 19 against Paraguay and Peru.
Therefore, it will be necessary to find a suitable date for the match in December 2024, or the first months of 2025, and to ensure the presence of all the stars of the Argentine national team in that confrontation, led by Messi.
Reports also stated that the plan includes Messi playing one half in an Argentina shirt, and another half in a Catalan team shirt.
