The government has summoned several companies to discuss ways to impose a tax on electronic sales, while plans are being drawn up to impose a one-off tax on “exceptional profits”, according to the newspaper.
The “Sunday Times” also indicated that “it is unlikely that the Minister of Finance, Rishi Sunak, will disclose these taxes when the budget is announced on the third of next March,” while “it is likely to be announced in the second half of the year.”
After an annual government borrowing on the way to becoming the highest since World War II, Rishi Sunak is facing pressure within his party, the Conservative Party, to prove that spending is under control when he presents the new budget, as data last month showed that public borrowing has reached since the start of the fiscal year in April. A record high, at 271 billion pounds (about 370 billion dollars), according to “Reuters”.
