China’s rapid economic recovery, as well as container shortages, and increased delivery times by sea, have made rail shipping to Europe via Asia and Russia more attractive.
The “Financial Times” newspaper said that Chinese producers are trying in this way to avoid delays in delivering goods to European Union countries. Therefore, during the first two months of 2101, the number of freight trains that passed from China to Europe via Russia reached two thousand, which is double what they were in the same period last year.
The newspaper quoted Nina Fang, a sales supervisor at a Chinese company producing sports training devices, as saying that these products are usually transported by sea, but the increase in the cost of transportation in this way forced the company to search for alternatives. In addition, major customers in Europe, for example, in Germany and France, complained about the inefficiency of sea transportation and asked to change the way of sending goods.
The newspaper stressed that the closure of the Suez Canal due to the delinquency of the container ship “Ever Givin” prompted producers to change priorities in logistics.
