The Spanish newspaper “Marca” reported in a report today, Saturday, that Argentine international Lionel Messi, the 33-year-old star and captain of Barcelona, has become more open to the idea of staying within the Catalan team.
According to the Spanish newspaper, as soon as the Barcelona club presidential elections, scheduled for March 7, end, the new president will sit with Messi to try to persuade him to stay within the Catalan team.
Messi’s contract with Barcelona expires next summer, and there are currently no negotiations between the two parties regarding the renewal.
Messi had asked to leave Barcelona last August, after the end of the football season in which Barcelona left empty-handed.

The newspaper pointed out that Messi left the door open to stay with Barcelona, as his future will depend on the offer of the new president, and the Argentine star demands a strong sports project that allows the Catalan team to return to its normal position by competing for titles soon, and the money will not be an obstacle to him for renewal.
At the moment, Messi has not made any decisions about his future, as he asked to leave when Josep Maria Bartomeu was president, but after the latter’s resignation, all options are open.
The newspaper pointed out that Messi feels discontent with the constant rumors about his future, and he did not like the recent statements from Paris Saint-Germain or the photos published of him in the French media. The Argentine star and his father are also refusing to listen to other clubs’ offers at the present time.
The newspaper concluded its report by confirming that free deals may be the key to Messi’s survival with Barcelona, such as Argentine Sergio Agüero and Dutchman Giorgio Vinaldum, in addition to more expensive contracts such as the Norwegian Erling Haaland, Dutch Matisse de Licht and Frenchman Jules Conde.
It is noteworthy that Messi tops the list of scorers in the Spanish “La Liga” with 18 goals, two goals ahead of his closest Uruguayan stalker, Luis Suarez, Atletico Madrid’s 16-goal star.
