The newspaper pointed out that the submarine “Belgorod” (Project 09852), which has a length of 180 meters, can be considered “the last submarines of the former superpowers,” indicating that its construction began practically before the collapse of the Soviet Union, although the official date for the start of construction work is July 24 1992.
“Izvestia” stated that “Belgorod” will become the first submarine designated to carry the atomic “Poseidon” torpedoes (known as the “Doomsday” weapon), which “can be used to direct a nuclear strike on the territory of a potential enemy in the event of a first strike.”
She added that a nuclear explosion near the coasts of the country, which is densely populated and many industrial centers, would cause giant tsunami waves, except for the main destructive effects of any nuclear explosion.
“Izvestia” added that the aforementioned submarine could also be equipped with a “Clavisin” robot and nuclear plants designed to work in the depths of water, similar to the “Losharik” station.
