The NFL has opened an investigation into the latest alleged incident involving Antonio Brown, which occurred two weeks prior to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers signing him.
According to the Miami Herald, the 32-year-old wide receiver allegedly destroyed a surveillance camera and threw a bike at a security-guard shack inside his gated community in Hollywood, Florida.
While the Hollywood Police Department found that it had probable cause to charge Brown with misdemeanor criminal mischief, the homeowners association president opted not to press charges and told the Herald that Brown offered to replace the camera.
Still, the NFL will complete due diligence on the matter to determine potential discipline options under its personal conduct policy.
“We review any incident of this kind,” spokesman Brian McCarthy wrote in an email to USA TODAY Sports early Wednesday.
Brown served an eight-game suspension to open the 2020 season after another league-conducted investigation, which stemmed from a slew of incidents dating back to 2019, including a battery charge against a truck driver and sending threatening text messages to a woman who accused him of sexual assault.
That did not preclude Tampa Bay from signing him on Oct. 27.
“We are aware of the reported incident involving Antonio Brown prior to his signing,” the team said in a statement Monday. “When Antonio joined us, we were clear about what we expected and required of him. Thus far, he has met all the expectations we have in place.”
A civil sexual assault and rape suit brought against Brown has a hearing scheduled for Jan. 11, 2021.
