San Salvador, Apr 14 (EFE).- Nicaragua received 1,842.3 million dollars in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) last year, 25.3% more than in 2021, the Central Bank reported this Friday.
In cumulative terms, in 2022 gross FDI inflows totaled 1,842.3 million dollars, which translated into an increase of 25.3% (372.2 million dollars) compared to what was registered in 2021 (1,470.1 million), the state issuing bank specified in a report.
The 1,842.3 million dollars captured in FDI in 2022 represented 11.8% of the gross domestic product (GDP), detailed the monetary entity.
In 2021, gross FDI income (1,470.1 million dollars) represented 10.4% of GDP, he indicated.
Meanwhile, net FDI flows accumulated 1,293.8 million dollars (8.3% of GDP), reflecting a growth of 6% compared to what was observed in 2021 (1,220.1 million dollars, 8.6% of GDP), according to the report.
“The main component of the net flow of FDI was the reinvestment of profits, with an amount of 946.3 million dollars (73.1% of the total), 53.9% higher than that registered in 2021 (614.9 million )”, pointed out the Central Bank.
In second place were capital contributions with 308.2 million dollars, representing 23.8% of the net flow of FDI, said the state bank.
On the other hand, net financing from external debt with related companies (related debt instruments) totaled 39.3 million dollars (3% of the total net flow).
The economic sectors with the highest net FDI flows were energy and mining, which attracted 464 million dollars (35.9% of the total); industrial sector (346.4 million); trade and services (310.1 million); financial (136.4 million), mainly.
In terms of the origin of FDI flows, accumulated to 2022, the United States remained in the first position with 399.9 million dollars (30.9% of the total), followed by Canada with 200.5 million dollars. dollars (15.5% of the total).
Mexico added 171.1 million dollars of FDI (13.2% of the total) and Panama 104.8 million dollars (8.1% of the total), according to the report.
