The presidential elections in Niger are heading to a run-off next February, after the two main candidates were unable to obtain 50% of the votes.
The ruling party’s candidate, Mohamed Bazoum, will face former President Muhammad Othman in the presidential run-off in February, according to the interim results of the first round of competition announced by the Election Commission on Saturday.
In the first round, Bazoum led by 39.33% of the vote, which is less than the 50% needed to win the first round.
The commission said Othman received 17% of the vote.
