On Sunday, Niger’s Constitutional Court confirmed that Mohamed Bazoum won the run-off in the presidential elections that took place last month, indicating that he would take the legal oath next month.
Bazoum’s inauguration on April 2 will represent a transition of power in the country from one democratically elected president to another, with President Mehmet Issoufou stepping down after two five-year terms.
The court approved the victory of Bazoum, the former interior minister, with 55.66 percent of the vote over former President Ma’an Othman, who received 44.34 percent of the vote.
The court’s statement did not directly refer to Othman’s allegations of widespread fraud.
