The 2025 PGA Tour season will begin without its top player.
The PGA Tour announced Friday that world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler has withdrawn from The Sentry, which is set to take place at the Plantation Course at Kapalua in Maui Jan. 2-5.
“On Christmas Day while preparing dinner, Scottie sustained a puncture wound to the palm of his right hand from a broken glass,” his manager Blake Smith said in a statement.
“Small glass fragments remained in the palm which required surgery. He has been told that he should be back to 100 percent in three to four weeks.”
Scheffler won seven tournaments including the Players and the Masters in route to becoming the 2024 FedEx Cup Champion. He also won an Olympic gold medal in Paris and was named PGA Player of the Year for the third-straight year.
Scheffler’s success continued with his six-shot win at Tiger Woods’ Hero World Challenge earlier this month.
Scheffler’s next scheduled start is at The American Express Jan. 16-19.
The complete field for The Sentry, which features players who won tournaments in 2024 and Tour Championship qualifiers, will be announced on Friday.
