The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for North Texas, effective from 6 p.m. Sunday through Monday evening for areas along and north of Interstate 20. This is the second flood watch for the region this week.
A new storm system is expected to bring heavy rainfall, with forecasters warning that the Monday morning commute could be particularly hazardous. The risk of flash flooding is heightened because the ground is already saturated from a storm earlier in the week that dropped four to six inches of rain in some locations.
The area is forecast to receive an additional 1 to 2 inches of rain, with isolated totals potentially reaching 3 to 4 inches. The highest concentration of rainfall is expected along the I-20 corridor and areas to its north and east.
Showers and storms are set to begin Sunday afternoon, intensifying into more widespread activity after midnight. As the system moves east on Monday, there is a slight risk of strong to severe storms developing in the afternoon, primarily to the south and east of the metroplex.
Conditions are expected to improve rapidly, with skies clearing by Tuesday afternoon. Temperatures will briefly warm into the 70s before a strong cold front arrives, ushering in cool, dry weather for the Thanksgiving holiday.
