North Korea has organized collective rallies of workers across the country to raise spirits for the realization of the new five-year plan for economic development put forward by leader Kim Jong Un last month.
The North Korean Central News Agency reported that labor gatherings aimed at encouraging the achievement of the goals of the first year of the five-year economic plan were held in various industrial fields and units.
The rallies were held to follow up on an earlier event held at the Hwang Hee Iron and Steel Complex, in which workers affirmed their commitment to achieving production targets and achieving the first-year targets of the plan, according to the North Korean Central News Agency.
North Korea unveiled the new five-year plan for economic development at the Eighth Congress of the Workers’ Party last month, highlighting self-reliance.
The latest economic rallies and rallies came after Kim criticized officials at a recent party meeting for showing “negative attitudes” in setting goals for this year and urging them to increase production of iron and steel and chemical fertilizers.
During the recent rallies, workers pledged to overcome the negative attitudes that Leader Kim recently indicated, according to the agency.
The agency said workers of the Cabinet Secretariat in Pyongyang expressed their desire to fundamentally invent their old ideological views and work stance, while miners in Jeryong and Onriol affirmed their intention to establish an independent foundation for the country’s mineral industry.
