The governor of Nuevo León, Samuel García Sepúlveda, commented that the ambassador and his team will participate together with the governors on very specific issues and in parallel they will be working with guests from the four states, civil society organizations, deputies and activists.
“We started the forum, at the end we will announce the notes, routes. We are very happy, we have a lot to talk about and strengthen ties with the United States. The first table on Economy and Labor, as a result of the T-MEC, has been the anchor of a strong trade with the United States; the second table on infrastructure and environment, climate change, the review of emissions into the atmosphere, mobility, water, dams, and the Rio Grande.
“The third table is the security table, we are going to delve into the issue in the area and continue to improve the mechanisms of binational cooperation and the fourth table is on migration, which in these days has taken off, we are in place to reinforce what mechanisms we can have in the region so that the human rights of migrants are respected, and that organized crime does not use them as an excuse to commit criminal acts, “said García Sepúlveda.
In turn, the United States ambassador to Mexico, Ken Salazar, said that President Joe Biden sent him to the region “so that we can be allies and strengthen relations with the states.”
He explained that the tours he has previously made through the southeast of the country, and in the northeast, “I am here because the United States recognizes the importance of this region, in Nuevo León, Tamaulipas, Coahuila and San Luis Potosí, come the deepest veins of the relationship between Mexico and the United States, and at the four tables we will talk about the things that are most important to us: economy, infrastructure, security and migration ”.
He noted that in the economic development There are international trade opportunities through the international bridges of Tamaulipas, Nuevo León and Coahuila, there are also other projects that are going to be identified in Tamaulipas where they are working on some issues on the border, or see the greatness of the state of Coahuila.
“If we do it regionally at these tables we will be able to have more strength, because a state can only be a powerful state, and the four states, including San Luis Potosí, there are economic riches, a great power of peoples that have been there. for a long time, from the dreams of the leaders of these states, where we can find a way, despite the sovereignty of each one, to work closer together, ”said the US diplomat.
Economic Powers
The governor of Coahuila, Miguel Angel Riquelme Solís, stressed that together with Tamaulipas and Nuevo León they are three economic powers, with their own sovereignty.
He recalled that they have met with Ambassador Ken Salazar at the border, to address the issue of Reform Labor inside of the T-MEC and explain how these entities export efficiently and in coordination with customs, through joint inspection, this has allowed to improve the quality of livestock exports.
For his part, the governor of Tamaulipas, Francisco García Cabeza de Vaca, highlighted that in the northeast of the country a quarter of the taxes collected by the states are generated, and 50% of international trade passes through the territory of Nuevo León, Coahuila and Tamaulipas, therefore, are not a competition between states, but can compete, for example, with Asia.
He indicated that Tamaulipas carries out the Prosperity and Border Security program for the economic development, along with seven North American agencies.
