A statement from NSW Police said officers from Brisbane Water Police District arrived ‘after assistance was requested by security for a patron that was failing to leave the venue.’
‘When police arrived, they were told the patron had left, so officers conducted a business inspection at the location,’ the statement said.
‘While inside, police assisted security who were involved in an altercation with another patron who had allegedly failed to leave the premises.’
A 19-year-old man was arrested and police began to escort him out of the restaurant.
Police will allege Starling and two other men, aged 20 and 24, became ‘aggressive’ and ‘assaulted police numerous times in an attempt to intervene’.
All four men were arrested after the brawl and taken to Gosford Police Station with the help of the Public Order and Riot Squad.
A male senior constable sustained a cut to his hand and was assessed by paramedics. No other officers were injured in the fight.
