NSW and Queensland record NO new local coronavirus cases after both states had virus breaches out of hotel quarantine over the weekend

- A security guard working in Sydney hotel quarantine tested positive on Saturday

New South Wales and Queensland have recorded no new locally-acquired Covid-19 cases after both states had virus breaches out of hotel quarantine over the weekend.
A returned traveller at Grand Chancellor Hotel in Brisbane transmitted the virus to another guest in a separate room.
It was then spread to a doctor at the Princess Alexandra Hospital between March 5-9.
Meanwhile, NSW experienced its own Covid-19 scare after a security guard working in hotel quarantine tested positive.

The 47-year-old man who worked at both the Sofitel Wentworth and Mantra at Haymarket hotels in inner Sydney tested positive late Saturday night
The 47-year-old man worked at both the Sofitel Wentworth and Mantra at Haymarket hotels in inner Sydney and had already received his first Pfizer jab.
NSW Chief Health Officer Kerry Chant said the security guard caught the virus from an infected returned traveller who was staying on floor 11 of the Sofitel.
The security guard had completed a shift on the same floor.
‘Genomic sequencing indicates they are a match. It has identical sequences to that of the security guard,’ Dr Chant told reporters on Monday.
‘We did review the CCTV footage and can I just say this gentleman was exemplary in his adherence to the procedures for mask wearing and other protections and precautions.
‘So we haven’t been able to find an exact source or an explanation for how this person became infected.
‘We are testing coworkers who worked with this gentleman to just check there is not someone else who may have been an intermediary who transmitted to this gentleman.’
The quarantine period for guests on floor 11 has been extended until March 23; 14 days after the infectious international traveller was removed from the hotel.
Dr Chant also revealed the security guard worked in a building management role during the week at an apartment in the ICAP point Towers in Hurstville.
‘I would want to assure people that he did not have any casual or close contact with residents in that apartment complex,’ she said.
NSW Health are now contacting the man’s coworkers and any contractors that might have come onto the building site.’
All four of his family contacts have tested negative so far.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the government is relieved there has been no community transmission since the man’s test results came back.
The end of the state’s 55-day Covid-free streak prompted the opposition to renew calls for the government to ensure that all hotel quarantine security guards were employed full-time so they did not have to work across multiple venues.
Six new cases were recorded in returned international travellers in hotel quarantine in Queensland, and three in NSW, on Monday.
More to come.
