Mercedes driver, 26, is chased by police for 60km along a major highway ‘before crashing into officers where meth and a knife is found in his car’

A Mercedes driver allegedly veered into oncoming traffic as he was pursued by police for 60km along a major highway before he crashed into officers.
Andrew Bell, 26, allegedly sped off after police tried to pull him over on the Pacific Highway near Murrays Beach on the NSW Central Coast at 11am on Thursday.
Bell allegedly attempted a U-turn but crashed into two police cars at the M1 motorway’s Kariong exit near Gosford about 11.32am, when he was arrested.

‘The vehicle involved was searched and officers allegedly found a knife and a small amount of methamphetamine,’ NSW Police said.
A male senior constable involved in the crash was treated for a fractured wrist and facial injuries before being rushed to hospital for a surgery on the wrist.
He allegedly drove south and crossed into an oncoming northbound lane, at which point police temporarily called off the pursuit.
Two highway patrol cars eventually stopped the Mercedes by crashing into it, wedging it between their cars and a rock face on the M1 near the Kariong exit.

The crash caused traffic chaos from 11.32am to 12.45pm, by which point the debris was cleaned up.
Bell was charged with driving dangerously in a police pursuit, disqualified driving, resist arrest, drug possession and possessing a knife in a public place at Gosford Police Station.
He was refused bail and will appear in Gosford Local Court on Friday.
Investigators are calling for anyone with dash-cam footage of the pursuit to come forward and submit it as evidence.
